"The upstairs facilities were fantastic. Lots of room and everything was clean. The only problem was the overpowering scent of the air fresheners. We had to take them all out and air the whole house out before we could stay. We wondered if they are to try and cover an obvious odour in the basement. Musty and possibly moldy odour as well as a septic smell in the bathroom down there. The guests who stayed down there were a little concerned and would have probably not wanted to stay if it has been more than 4 nights. Other than that...it was great. Hopefully you will decide to look into this situation and correct it because it was a concern for us."

Thanks for your comments. I have informed the cleaner to reduce the number of air fresheners. We have had other guests comment that there are too many and the smell is overwhelming. I've also asked her to make sure the dehumidifier is also on in the basement.

We were unable to find a fire extinguisher in the kitchen area as mentioned in the booklet
Beds were very comfy as was the living area."

Tip:
"Directions to cottage includes a garage on corner of HWY 224.It is now closed.
There is Reid's Restaurant and Mikhael's Cafe in Middle Musquodoboit only 15 min.away
The community of Meaghers Grant was spelled Myers which may be hard to find by name.

"It is a beautiful location. There are a lot of other cottages/homes nearby, but it is still quite quiet and peaceful.
We chose the location partially based on the proximity to either side of the family (one side in Halifax and one side in Truro) so we wouldn't have to do as much travelling back and forth on this visit to NS, but we got so much more than just a spot close to both families. "

Tip:
"This is an ideal spot to rest and relax versus sightseeing. We were two families sharing the cottage. Our family wanted to just relax at one location and found it ideal, the other wanted to do a bunch of sightseeing and found it a bit remote from the places they wanted to go.
My advice is to buy a weeks worth of groceries and plant yourself in a lovely location for the whole week. The lake is beautiful and nice to swim in, there is a playstructure for the kids, a firepit for the evenings, and a great table for playing games if it rains. "

"The house and location were lovely. The only suggestion I have is to look into the amount of earwig bugs and silverfish that appeared each evening in the master bathroom. At any given time there were 3 to 5 earwigs and 2 silverfish. The internet did not work as DSL seems to be too slow for current smartphones and the television satellite never received a signal. Although the television not working was not a loss to us, we would have appreciated an efficient internet connection to allow us to research some sites prior to driving to them."

Tip:
"If you want to site see, prepare yourself for a long, but beautiful drive. We found most areas of interest were about 2 hours away but sometimes found gorgeous spots along the way to snap some pictures. The Old Fish Factory in Lunenburg has good food- but the best restaurant we found was in Sheet Harbor, called The Henley House Pub and Restaurant. We totally recommend the seafood platter. My husband and I shared it and it was fabulous!"

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. I am also staying at the cottage for various weeks this summer and did notice the earwigs (haven't seen a silverfish) but I had the exterminator spray outside on Friday. Next time just let me know and I could see if I could rectify it right away. Regarding the internet, it is slow due to the location, we have the fastest high speed we can have in our area. We recently went with an additional company that has faster internet but costs depending on usage. I haven't let renters know it was an option as it was only installed a couple weeks ago and I was wanting to test it out before making it available, but had I known you were having issues, I certainly would have availed it to you! And finally the TV... I was actually in the house before you but I didn't use the TV and didn't realize it wasn't working until I came back this week and my kids had issues. We had a PVR installed and it wasn't installed correctly and caused there to be no reception. I'm glad you were able to enjoy your stay despite the inconveniences. In the future you could give me a call or email me and I would do everything I could to rectify the problem as fast as I could!

"My sisters and I enjoyed renting your Mill Lake Getaway for our annual Mother/Daughter week-end. It easily accommodated our needs (functional kitchen, three bathrooms and five bedrooms). As well; it was clean and comfortable. We had rainy weather and while we didn't get to enjoy the outdoors it was wonderful to be able to enjoy the view of the lake.

There was just one problem. When we arrived there was 'air fresheners' plugged in the outlets and two of our guests had to take antihistamines because of the scents. One of our guests was not able to spend the night as planned because of her sensitivities to scents. This will have to be something (for both us and yourself) to take into consideration for us to be able to have a return visit. Other than this; everything was wonderful and I would not hesitate to recommend Mill Lake Getaway to other travellers."

Tip:
"We travelled to New Glasgow on Saturday and did some shopping at the mall."
