We liked the architecture of this ancient house in a small complex of similar buildings

Tip:
"Kingussie for shopping and laundry,
Ruthven Barracks (18th century),
Walk to the Creag Bheag hill near Kingussie (nature and view)
Walk to Loch an Elein (nice landscape)
Working Sheepdogs (20 pounds/person)

Good location for daily trips to Culloden or Blair Castle

"Although we never met Dermod and Frankie I have the impression that they are a very friendly and hospitable couple who deeply care for their Shetland holiday cottage and their guests. All communications with Dermod via text were excellent, friendly, prompt, helpful and informative. "

Tip:
"A walk around Loch an Eilein definitely recommended. Quirky thing to do is booking the bothy sauna and cooling off in the loch. Unfortunately we didn't have any swim clothes with us.
We did a car tour drive with many stops and walks (leaflet in draw) which was excellent.
Find out if there are any Highland Games to get a taste of Scottish leisure traditions. We went to Gordon Castle for a day.
There is so much to do and see we didn't have enough time.

"Lovely location and cottage with a large private garden for dogs to run around in. There was a beautiful llama just across the field that called to us during our stay. We could also see animals from the wildlife park. Very nice and warm inside the cottage too."

Tip:
"Aviemore is a little more expensive than places further out due to it being popular with tourists. Places that are well worth a visit are Loch Insh watersports, Loch Eileen Castle in the middle of the water, Rothiemurchus, Fort William, Loch Treig where the Hermit of Treig possibly still resides, Kingussie and many other places in the surrounding area."

Great host, fresh clean bedding and towels and a good shower. Lots of hot water and heaters if needed. Next to the Highland wildlife park but you would never know this apart from the occasional roar! "

Tip:
"Lovely walks from every nearby village. Great chip shop in Kinguisse that actually fries with vegetable oil. The Tesco in Aviemore has everything you will need. Fantastic views when walking around Loch an Eilein and Loch Morlich at Glenmore. Spectacular part of the world."

Thanks for such a great review (again!). And great to know about things like the chip shop in Kingussie. We keep finding new places to eat... And the landscape is spectacular. Even the local loch, Loch Insh is fantastic. Beautiful views up and down Strathspey.
