"We stayed recently for our first trip in our new to us caravan and were very happy that we did. The site is well maintained, clean and picturesque with the touring park overlooking the abbey ruins. There was a good range of facilities, all of which were clean and well maintained. There is also an onsite café which provides lovely snacks including toasties, scones and tea cakes. There is a lovely dog walk across the river into Cocken Wood, where the dogs can be off lead and have a swim and they can also walk around the priory on lead. Being close to Durham city, the site was well served by Just Eat which was helpful for us as we didn’t pack food, unaware at this point of what worked in our caravan and what didn’t. Owner was happy for food to be brought on to site and it was a short walk from the park to meet the delivery driver at the barrier. Park warden was warm and welcoming and regularly conducted a drive around of the park to check everything was in order. When we arrived, he showed us to our pitch and checked in on us over the weekend too to see how we were getting on. Everyone on site was friendly and it was really quiet and relaxing being adult only. Overall our first trip was a success and we wouldn’t hesitate to return!"

Tip:
"Make sure to check your plot as some are uneven and require chocks to level. I messaged in advance to check if the plot chosen was flat and was told yes only to find it wasn’t. This wouldn’t ordinarily be a problem but we are inexperienced newbies who had only just tested towing the caravan never mind levelling it! We found this very difficult without experience but thankfully found help on site by way of a friendly neighbour. We have a caravan course coming up to help us as newbies but I may have reconsidered this as first trip if I’d know levelling was involved. Despite this, this is an experience issue not a park issue so this is just a tip for other travellers. It wouldn’t put us off coming back and next time hopefully we will have the skills and knowledge to be able to set ourselves up :) "
