"Button-Ben Guest House is a beautiful and extremely well-appointed guest house, close to The UNESCO World Heritage sites, Stromness and very central for travelling all around the Orkney Mainland. Breakfast is delicious and the other friendly special touches like home-baked treats make it feel like home away from home. By far and away the most wonderful part of staying at Ben-Button is your hostess, May. May makes sure you feel completely welcome and looked after. Her customer service, kindness and friendliness are absolutely second to none."

"A nicely furnished and equiped room with glorious views and a very comfortable bed. May could not have been a better hostess. The breakfast was very tasty and substantial. "

Tip:
"In the 15 years since our last visit the island has become more popular with tourists and with a few closures of restaurants and hotels since the pandemic, it is often tricky to find dinner venues. Booking well in advance is essential. Stromness has few eateries left, particularly at lunchtime if the weather is bad. Keeping a few picnic items in the car is useful as there are lots of scenic spots to rest and eat. The RSPB reserves are very uncrowded. Tours at the Historic Scotland sites are worth doing. "

"May went out of her way to help us before and during our stay
Always had a smile and took time to talk to us
The little baked cakes she left in our room each day were a welcome treat when we returned "

"Come prepared for wet cold weather even in summer
Bring waterproof tops and pants and thermal undies
Especially if coming from a warmer climate
Need to book restaurants for every meal as they are fully booked most nights"
