"Lovely friendly couple who more than went out of their way to ensure we were looked after and supported. What a beautiful spot and so close to the beach and other walks. We were sad to leave. "

"The Fish Shack is a must. Great gluten free options all over the island. "

"A great place to stay. All needs and comforts thought of and supplied. Lovely, helpful owners who are happy to chat or not as their guests wish. The seat at the end of the garden looking out to sea is a great place to sit and relax. At the end of the day it is perfect to watch the sun go down. If you are lucky you may see a beautiful sunset."

Tip:
"Brough of Birsay is a unique place. Take care to note tide times.
The Earls Palace and St Nagnus church and churchyard next to the house is lovely.
Scapa Flow, Churchill Barriers and the Italian Church and the islands connected by the barriers are well worth visiting.
Scara Brae of course.
The many RSPB sites. Amazing birdlife.
Stand out sitings. Arctic tern on the cliffs near Birsay. Puffins and guillemots on Brough of Birsay. Hen Harriers and skuas. Sit anywhere and the birdlife is all around.
Kirkwall, St Magnus Cathedral and the Bishop's Palace are very interesting. Lots of interesting shops and restaurants in Kirkwall.
Plenty more to do and see given time.
If travelling from Scrabster to Stromness watch out for the great views of the Old Man of Hoy and the cliffs.

"With each visit to Annie's place it becomes more and more like home from home with Anne and Robin's high standards clearly evident with the high level of cleanliness inside and out.
A decent night's sleep is always had with the comfortable beds, the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need in a self catering accommodation.
Both Anne and Robin ensure all our requirements were met with care and attention to making our stay perfect. Their local knowledge of walks and sights to see kept us busy the whole week giving us insight into the best places to capture all that makes Orkney and Birsay in particular a great place for a holiday.
Annie's place as a base is perfect with the shoreline at the end of the garden with breath taking views. Anne and Robin's dedication to the garden to make it a great place to unwind after cliff top walks, puffin spotting and high energy crashing waves.

Tip:
"Within Birsay there are many walks to go on with my favourite over to the Brough of Birsay for dramatic cliff walks and bird spotting especially the puffins.
From the end of the garden at Annie's place you can go left to Marwick head and right to the scenic walk along the coast as far as you can go. A two minute walk from the front door is the Palace an old ruin full of history.
A fifteen minute drive away is Yesnaby with dramatic cliffs that provide crashing waves and the famous Yesnaby Castle sea stack.
In the village there is a local shop which also provides hot food and ice cream. A 10 minute walk through the village takes you to the tearoom and an abundance of cakes. "
