For a first time visitor, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Explanations of the campsite and facilities were very clear and informative. The yurt itself was great: beds were comfortable and bedding was sufficient to stay warm. Restaurant food was good but selection was limited. Great area to socialise if so inclined. Couple of things - padlock was missing from my yurt also please can you put a list of what’s in the yurt (or send one out with booking form) as that would make life easier. I scoured the reviews to find tips for what was useful to take but a suggestion list would be helpful. I’m sure you get asked these same questions every year and your response times to emails is a bit slow. Overall, had a great time and would book again.

Hay-on-Wye is lovely - make sure you take time to visit as there’s a lot to explore. Best explored on foot, lots of bakeries, cafés, independent shops and of course, lots of great book shops. Take a picnic table and chairs, camping light, was told that could have used a camping stove outside the yurt. Fred’s Yurts also provide hot water bottles when cold. Location is very convenient to the Festival site which is within a couple of minutes walk. Showers and toilets were fine. Parking for one vehicle is included in the booking price.

I'm not a camper but this was such a great experience. The beds were comfy and the facilities were great. Powerful showers and good flushing toilets. The location was ideal. Have definitely recommended Fred's Yurts to everyone when talking about the Hay Book Festival. Will definitely be back!

Hay-on-Wye is a short walk away from the festival itself. Lots of lovely book shops and independent boutique shops too. We'll worth a visit.

What a brilliant set up! We had a bell tent with very comfortable proper mattresses, bedside tables with battery lamps, fairy lights and a colourful rag rug. There were lots of great facilities, such as the hot showers, pamper tent, great on-site hot food van (the brie burger with cranberry sauce was inspired!). Our favourite was the communal tipi chill-out tent with the fire bowl burning all evening and comfortable sofas, chairs and tables. There was even a bar tent with hot water for filling up hot water bottles!

It is worth bringing a camping chair to sit outside the tent, although the communal facilities mentioned above are a great alternative.

We have stayed with Fred’s Yurts for the Hay Festival many times. We love the spacious bell tent with comfortable bed. Great showers and toilets. Lovely layout and scenic location, less than 10 minutes walk to the festival site and half an hour stroll from town. We very much enjoyed our evenings by the fire with a glass of wine. Excellent food van this year for drinks, breakfast and evening meals. Special mention for Ed who worked extremely hard to cater for everyone’s tastes and was above all, extremely friendly. See you next year!
