Beautiful location, peaceful ambience and a walk through some lovely countryside to spend a day in Durham. Showers/toilets/potwash facilities were spotless and hot water plentiful. My only gripe is other campers not separating their rubbish and so we had to take our recycling home as the designated bins were stuffed with large bags of mixed rubbish. Not the campsite's fault though.

Tips for other travellers
The walk to Durham takes a good hour and the map provided was a little sketchy.

We booked a pod at Finchale Abbey last minute, and it turned out to be one of the most relaxing breaks we’ve had. The free firewood was a lovely bonus and made the evening even more enjoyable. The whole site was spotless, and our pod was clean, comfortable, and well looked after. What really stood out was how peaceful it was—you could hear nothing but the sounds of wildlife, which made it the perfect place to switch off and unwind. We honestly had the most chilled time and left feeling completely recharged. We wouldn’t hesitate to come back and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway.

Lovely clean site. We were facing the Priory which was a bonus. The owner was seen regularly driving around in his golf cart, so always avaliable if we had a question.
