We come to beautifulFonchale Abbey and Park often and are never disappointed. The setting is stunning next to the River Wear and the ruins of Finchale Abbey. All staff and the family owners are friendly, helpful and generous with their time. Dog owners love the environs and extensive walks along the river.

Tips for other travellers

Some levelling may be needed on plots but staff will always help you site. Remember to use provided doggie clean up bags and visit the café for great hot drinks and snacks. Birders will find many species of woodland and river birds as well as buzzards and kestrels to see M & J Dixon

Facilities are spotless. Pitches well laid out. Easy in and out and great communication with the site team prior to our one night stay. Perfect.

Try the walk into Durham along the river bank...the path is a little rough and run down in places but worth the effort
