A beautiful and unique situation- an experience in itself. All staff were very friendly and most helpful. We chose this site as it looked "nice" and is quite close to Beamish which was our reason for visiting the area. To describe the site as " nice" is a total understatement. We did not have time to explore the river walks etc and the Abbey properly. A great loss to us bur certainly a place we will cetrtaimly come back to.

We had a lovely stay over the bank Holiday weekend. Stayed on D plots ( needed to use chocks ) . The site was very busy but still peaceful , toilet and shower facilities ok but be warned water very hot 🔥 and only 2 showers and a disabled shower . There is nothing around the site for stocking up so best to shop before pitching up . We got a uber into Durham for a day ( 15.00 for a dog friendly car ) was worth the cost as quite a walk to bus stops and the weather was hot . Durham is lovely . The campsite owner ? manager ? Did regular drive round and asked if all was ok . There is a walk by the river across the bridge with little areas our dog could take a swim and cool off .
