Lovely setting, very peaceful and quiet. The Stable was compact, well resourced, and ideal for a short stay. Good parking available, the village is great for walks, and access to the moor was super. Ideal location for other visits locally.

Tinpickle & Rhum at Haytor is worth it… amazing food and if you time it right you can watch sunset over Haytor Rock after dinner. From the back of the Blackadon cottages, walk up to the moor for sunrise/sunset too. Stunning views. Lunch at the Winking Prawn, Northsands, Salcombe is worth the drive. King prawns to rival Australia, a beautiful dog friendly beach, great little walk to Southsands, and far less busy than Salcombe centre. Don’t rely on your sat nav alone… Devon B roads can be tiny with few passing places. However, most folk are super polite and helpful when it comes to sharing the lanes.

The cottage was beautifully decorated and stylish, the beds super comfortable and we had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. The location is just stunning and the bedding plants and the trickle of water in the courtyard made the outside as glorious as the inside. The games room was a huge bonus, perfect for our grandchildren and The Hive, where my toddler grandson could borrow a bucket and spade was also a great hit! Lovely idea to have picnic items to borrow too. We loved Blackadon and will be back. Thank you.

Moorhaven is a fabulous place for walks and Dartmoor was perfect for tiring out excitable dogs. We popped into the pub at the bottom of the hill, The Horse and Groom, where a friendly welcome awaited. We used the Indian restaurant, Nandon, in Ivybridge for a takeaway and there is a very good cafe overlooking the river in Ivybridge shopping centre. We were celebrating a family birthday so spent most of our time in the village but enjoyed the farm’s donkeys and goats.

Michael and Nicola could not be better hosts. They are so helpful and friendly. We loved staying in The Roost for 3 nights. The setting is peaceful, parking for 2 cars, wonderful, comfortable accommodation which is tastefully furnished and has everything you need. Loved the communal outdoor seating area and having the Hive where you can buy soft drinks and local goods. It is perfect.

Pub at the bottom of the hill (Horse and Groom) is handy for bite to eat without travelling far. Lovely beaches nearby.
