We stayed in the River room in the main house, and it was a lovely room, out of direct sunlight, so stayed lovely and cool. We had use of the utility room for tea, coffee and microwave use. Our hosts were excellent, friendly and helpful. The location is fab and deserves a higher mark other than you have to negotiate the A1 to get there.

A haven of a place to stay, so relaxing and in a beautiful setting. The swimming pool is gorgeous with some sun beds to use. If you stay in the house, be aware that you can use the fridge freezer and microwave in the utility room. The 2 pubs in Castor, a 25 min walk across footpath but be aware that they are not open Monday or Tuesdays

Hi Veronica, Thanks so much for your helpful review. Yep, can't do much about the A1 I'm afraid...without it, no one wouldn't be able to get here :o) It is a little bit manic at times, but there are ways to come and go without crossing the A1, by travelling North or South for a mile or so , to the next flyovers. For guests in the house, the full kitchen and amenities are available too . I'm so sorry if I didn't make this clear to you. There are 2 pubs in Castor (The Feathers and The Royal Oak) , a superb fine dining restaurant (The Chubby) , a lovely, more relaxed sister to the fine dining restaurant (The Yard) and a delightful coffee shop . We are also within walking distance of the Nene Valley Steam Railway station and museum. Thank you for staying with us, we are most grateful for all our guests. Best wishes, Stephen

With the current heatwave, we decided to escape for a couple of nights and make the most of the sunshine away from work and the usual day-to-day busyness. We didn’t want to travel far, so finding this little gem practically on our doorstep was the perfect surprise. It ticked every box for us – a peaceful riverside setting, an outdoor pool, and a quiet location that felt completely tucked away from the world. Being right on the river was an added bonus, especially as I was hoping to get out on my paddleboard. Our cottage was lovely and had everything we needed. We simply arrived with some food, drinks and our swimwear, then switched off and relaxed for two days. It’s the perfect midweek retreat if you’re looking to recharge, and even more special when the sun is shining and you can really make the most of the beautiful outdoor setting.
