The Andy Goldsworthy Art Trail is well worth doing and very local. It entails a 6-7 mile walk over the Moor visiting converted barns housing Andy Goldsworthy art work using natural materials.Very impressive!

Lots of wildlife to see. Nice pub the Coach House Inn at Rosedale Abbey for drinks and Food. Nice cafe Graze on the Green. Lots of Abbeys, Churches with old paintings at Pickering and Helmsley. A few Castles. If you like trains, you must take a ride from Pickering to Whitby but if it is very dry you will not be pulled by a steam train. Goathland is where Heartbeat was filmed and here is a nice cafe with lots of inside and outside seating. Helmsley has a lovely bakery and butchers in the same shop at the square where you park. The Italian restaurant next door is good too. There is a Bird of Prey centre, Castle and Walled garden. The working Abbey at Ampleforth is worth a visit and has a cafe and large grounds for walking. Byland and Rieveaulx Abbeys are nearby.

Pickering is a bustling town with lots of good shops and a steam railway. We went a little further to Malton which is classed as a food capital of york.lots of quirky shops And talbot yard (visited by the King)has a gin distillery Bakeries and French macaroon maker. We also like Helmsley a pretty market town not far away And towards the coast Whitby is an easy drive
