For Pennine Way walkers it's now a vital location as I have been told the caravan site in Alston no longer accepts campers. It has great facilities if you pay the extra £2 (£10 total) for use of showers, drying room & a kitchen. The site does back onto a playground & playing field so there is a bit of noise while the local children play, but they were good kids, no bother at all & all went home by 8. I would definitely stay here again.

There's only space for 4 small tents, (possibly 6 if pitched very close), but there's a bunk room also available. The pub should be reopening within the next 12 months now the funding for renovation has been sorted, & there's a small basic P Office for supplies. This is a great place to see red squirrels (& I was lucky), & lots of bird life too.

After a long hike from Dufton, the bunk room was a welcome stopover. Excellent facilities and very clean. Brian the caretaker was helpful and managed to get us a few beers as the pub was still being renovated. Recommended.
