An ideal place to stay for exploring the local area. Excellent hosts who greeted us with homemake cakes and treats.

Mike and Ann were the best hosts. They were so engaging and welcoming. The cottage was just perfect, in fact the best property we have ever stayed in. Every attention to detail had been made - it was extremely impressive. A fantastic week in our favourite part of England

If you have National Trust or English Heritage membership go and visit the many sites. For the best fish and chips go to Capplemans in Pickering. You can eat in and it's very traditional.

It is a lovely area with lots of places to visit and things to do. The Cedar Barn served us one of the best Sunday dinners we have ever had. The drive from Hutton to Rosedale Abbey is spectacular. Walk or cycle if you are fit enough!

Absolutely no hesitation in recommending Laura's Cottage. It is luxurious, well equipped, spotlessly clean and in the most beautiful location imaginable. The bed is wonderfully comfortable and there's a lovely en suite shower room to each bedroom. We sat out on the patio and listened to the larks over the nearby pasture and it was bliss. We had such a kind and generous welcome from Ann and Mike, I'm not sure we've ever felt so welcome anywhere. We are very much looking forward to making a return visit.

Winding your way round the country and moorland roads above the village is highly recommended, the countryside is beautiful. The walled garden in Helmsley, The Ryedale Folk Museum and Scampston Hall Gardens down near Malton are all good enough to visit more than once if you were inclined but there's lots to do in the whole area. We enjoyed perfect fish and chips in Pickering; Cedar Barn Farm shop and the Blacksmiths Arms in Lastingham were highlights but we found good food in many places.
