As always my stay in October 2021 was excellent. Emma and Mark are great, helpful and friendly hosts. With the Covid-19 restrictions lifted our workshop group ate breakfast togather rather than in individual rooms. Lovely food, exactly as ordered the evening before! Comfortable accommodation, quiet location, close to Braithwaite village and the Royal Oak for walking-distance evening meals, but close to Keswick and major routes for easy access to the Lakes.

The best views are in the rooms at the front of the building giving lovely views over Skiddaw, and towards Borrowdale. That said the garden views are OK too!

Emma was very helpful in making my booking. Instructions on entry to the house and individual room were clear. Rooms were very well furnished, well decorated and clean. A good bed. In the en-suite hot water and shower excellent, the loo in my room was very low (necessarily because it was below the window) and the wash-hand-basin plug lever seemed not to be working fully. The extras in the room tea/coffee etc gave many choices. The sensible breakfast ordering system gave extensive choices for the many possible components of breakfasts. The cooked breakfasts were more than adequate and well presented. A very pleasant place to stay and be a base for seeing the Lakes. Emma and Mark have made Fern Howe a very pleasant pl;ace to stay and we were grateful to them.

If dining at a local pub or restaurant in Braithwaite it is best to book ahead, e.g. at The Royal Oak, The Coledale Inn. If walking have a good torch on dark nights for the road down and back up from Fern Howe. There is a drying room.

Thank you so much for such a positive review Finlay - it was such a pleasure to meet you and John and we really hope to see you again. Re. your comment over the toilet, this is a standard height. We are sorry that you had issue with the plug lever - we would have been more than happy to assist with this if it was raised during your stay. It is great that you had such a lovely stay and thank you greatly for choosing Fern Howe.

The quality and cleanliness of my room( Wastwater) was excellent,as were the drinks and snacks .Breakfast superb. Shower perfect. The only problem I had was in bending down to the low clothes rail tucked away under the low ceiling meant I bumped my head nearly every time!

A lovely walk along the quiet lane to Thornthwaite and up by the cottages by the beck on a superb path up through the woods to Whinlatter visitor centre..about an hour's walk.

Thank you for giving us top marks Dave, it was really lovely having you to stay. We are sorry that you bumped your head - as we are sure you will appreciate, due to the configuration of the room, that is the only location within which we could install a clothes rail and we chose to do so, rather than not have one at all. We did also add some hooks to the back of two doors within the room too, for longer items. We hope that you enjoyed your remaining two Wainwrights of Barrow and Outerside and we very much hope to see you at Fern Howe again! Take care

Great location and accommodation. Service excellent. The only downside for us as photographers was the limited time options for breakfast which did not fit in with sunrise shoots. Another light on the other side of car park would be helpful. Otherwise thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for your review June, and for scoring us with top marks, we really appreciate it. We are sorry that the breakfast slots did not fit in with your really early starts. We usually find that our earliest seating of 7.45am suits our early risers, but appreciate that we may never be able to fit in with everyone's requirements. We offered to provide you with some takeaway breakfast bags for your first few mornings and it was great to see you both in the breakfast room for your remaining three mornings, after you had started your stay with your early get-out mornings to catch sunrise. Thank you for the feedback regarding a light on the far side of the car park - we shall certainly look in to whether we can run power there in order to install further lighting. We hope that you got some amazing photos from your time in the Lakes and we hope to see you and Mike again! Take care.
