Always a pleasure to stay in these character cottages in the heart of the Dales.

Really enjoyed our meals at ‘The Kings Head’ in Gunnerside and ‘The Farmer’s Arms’ in Muker. Caffe Curva in Hawes serves excellent coffee and the cheese scones and tea cakes are very tasty.

We have stayed with Cathole cottages before and as last time booking procedure all went smoothly. Cottage was delightful. Great location in village of Gunnerside. Well stocked kitchen and excellent information booklets with laminated walking materials. Cottage had library of interesting books about Dales too. Lovely lounge with log burner and logs provided (uoside down house so mountain views). Bench and table and chairs to sit on in front of cottage. Locals very friendly and welcoming too. Definitely recommend and will be booking again next year.

Ate at Village pub each night where food of excellent standard, recommend fish and steak pie! Walked up Gunnerside Beck where remnants of lead minining industry and on second day walked from Muker up Swale to Keld with spectacular views and beautiful waterfalls. Local shops in Muker and Reeth but also discovers campsite shop at Usha Gap farm, open longer hours where sell own meat.

We love the community pub, Kings Head, in Gunnerside. Beautiful walks from Gunnerside, Keld, Reeth and Hawes. Waterfalls in Askrigg and Keld. Two Dales bakery in Reeth. Best earrings made by Judith in Reeth museum shop.

The cottage was exactly as advertised, and was in a perfect location for our walks in Swaledale. It was spotlessly clean and the kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils. The wi-fi was good. However, it would be useful to include the wi-fi password in the information folder. The internal stairs might be difficult for people with limited mobility. The bedrooms were quite compact and rather lacking in storage space.

We visited the Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle on a rainy day - highly recommended. The Kings Head in Gunnerside does good food and beer, but it's best to book a table beforehand if you want to eat there.
