We really loved this cottage, once we unpacked it felt like home. There is loads of storage in the bedrooms so no rummaging in suitcases! Really spacious and well equipped kitchen too (although the frying pans left a lot to be desired).

Make sure you take slippers especially in winter - the floor downstairs is cold. The driving is pretty hairy at times so make sure you check where your satnav is taking you if you want to avoid the single track roads and massive hills (which is possible). That said - you will be rewarded with the best views and it is an adventure! Just not for the faint hearted at times! Aysgarth falls are lovely - be sure to go to all three. Richmond has confusing disc parking - we popped in a pub to ask for advice and they gave us a disc. A day in Gunnerside itself is worth it as there are nice walks from home. All in all it is a great holiday! Oh - also have change. All the public toilets need 20p!

We have booked cottages with Cat Hole Cottages for quite a few years. We have stayed at The Haven in the past and always find it very welcoming especially having a back garden for the dogs. It really is a Haven. Gunnerside is a great base to see Swaledale and beyond. It is very peaceful and relaxing. Thank you Judith

Can recommend The Punch Bowl at Low Row. Reeth great for ice cream on The Green and bakery with cafe. Muker Tea rooms serves beautiful food can recommend especially mid walk!!!! All the local walks are so beautiful at present with the wild flowers Swaledale never disappoints.

The booking arrangements were easily accomplished, and the cottage was in an admirable location for our purposes of walking in Swaledale. We were aware that parking was not available on site, and though the parking in the centre of the village was in high demand, we were able, on most occasions, to get parked with a little patience. The house was roomy and provided an authentic 'old dales house' ambience. The only downside was the snail trails on the work surfaces and cutting board that greeted us on several mornings!

Just about every walk in Swaledale is an absolute joy, due to the wonderfully 'wild' feel of the area compared to the other dales. It truly is a special place, with wonderful scenery, friendly people, and good food and drink in abundance. The prospect of so many circular walks offers a wide variety of experiences and physical challenges, and there's always the 'cheat' of driving north to the high moors and walking across these beautiful acres without having the scale the elevation first!!
