This wee place is a proper Gem. Marie (the host) has this place spotless and is full of local information for travellers.All rooms are en suite, we had a room for 4 with 2 bunk beds, which were really comfortable. The living area/ kitchen has everything you need to be self sufficient and again was spotless. The hostel is in the village and only 200yds from the bars and chip shop/ restaurant.

Tips for other travellers

The village of Helmsdale is stunning with a few bars, a chip shop which is attached to a very good restaurant ( La Mirage) and a local shop. There are quite a few good walks in the area. Don’t miss the memorial to the Clearances.

Absolute amazing location close to the harbour and the highland clearances monument. The facilities were first class, homely, very clean and fresh. Marie is a legend and has given some sea kayak tips for future trips. She is a treasure for information about the area. She has a passion for the surrounding area and can offer a wealth of information on what to do and see.

Tips for other travellers

Local shops are within walking distance as is the harbour. Visit the highland clearances monument and walk in the beautiful gorse covered hills.
