We stayed as a couple over the Easter weekend. The Birkdale is a fantastic B&B located literally a stone's throw from the old town part of Shanklin. The house and rooms are very spacious, tastefully decorated and impeccably clean. Lesley & Colin were great hosts, with comprehensive communication in the lead up to our stay. They cooked a great breakfast (it's cooked to order and there is a large selection/menu) - so good in fact, that one day we couldn't eat a full lunch later in the day! All in all, a great place to book - thoroughly recommended!

Lesley and Colin always give you a warm welcome. Breakfast is always a great start to your day. Nothing is too much trouble for them.

A lovely hotel , rooms are lovely and you have a fridge with fresh milk and 2 bottles of water placed in there for you when you arrive. You have a range of teabags and fruit tea to choose from.Cleaned to a high standard. Located in Old Shanklin village by the shops and the Crab Pub, Pencil Cafe and also the lovely Old Thatch Teashop. Buses stop near to the Guest House so it is easy for you to explore the Island. Osbourne House and Newport are a few places we visited. Already booked again for Next Year

The Birkdale is fab-u-lous, we wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Lesley, Colin and Sarah are so lovely, and always make us feel so welcome, it really is like going home. Lesley’s breakfasts are just THE best, her fruit salads are a meal in themselves, especially with the homemade yogurt…but we always have something else from the humongous menu(be rude not to); Sarah keeps everywhere to the highest standard of cleanliness, and Colin is the greatest “dumbwaiter with a milk float” you’ll ever find. Nothing is too much trouble. We really enjoy every moment we are there.

“The Hideaway” (to eat) up on the cliff path (Shanklin)…lovely food and beautiful views. Very friendly, independent, family run. Good value. Advisable to ring and book as quite small. Check opening times. The Blacksmiths Arms, Calbourne…fabulous Sunday lunch. If booking an afternoon time, consider pre ordering your Sunday Roast to avoid disappointment. The Beach Shack, Sandown….lovely family run cafe, great location for a coffee and a snack at the end of the walk from Shanklin to Sandown. Check opening times. The Dell, lovely family run cafe/restaurant on the front between Ryde and Seaview. Great location. Park at the top end of Appley Park and walk through to the beach, it’s right there. Open every day, except Christmas Day.
