Lesley and Colin are the perfect hosts. We received a warm welcome on our arrival. The room was perfectly clean, the bed comfortable and tea and biscuits plentiful. A nice touch was having a small fridge in room containing 2 bottles of spring water ( refillable from the hall) and milk (again replenished from the dining room fridge) for tea/or coffee. I can honestly say that the Birkdale is a cut above the norm.

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Birkdale Guest House. There were lots of special touches that elevated our experience. A water cooler right outside our room with glass bottles to fill up was brilliant, so we had water in the fridge when we wanted it. It was lovely to be able to get extra milk and tea/coffee/hot chocolate whenever we wanted as well as being able to request extra biscuits. The breakfast service was exceptional. There was a huge variety of cooked options as well as cereal, toast, croissants, fruit salad and more. Everything was delivered to our table with a friendly smile and everything we could need was ready for us on our table when we sat down. We would highly recommend staying at the Birkdale Guest house, not only for the impeccable service but also the fabulous location.

Bear in mind that the Isle of Wight is very hilly and some roads aren’t well suited to larger vehicles. We would highly recommend the Steamer Inn on Shanklin seafront (no booking so try early) and the Fighting Cocks pub about 9 mins drive away had delicious food, options for Lite portions and table buzzers to save queuing at the bar. Attraction wise, a visit to Osbourne House and the Needles attraction are a must. There are so many other places to see and nothing is really more than a 45 minute drive from Shanklin.

Great contact prior to arrival. A very warm welcome from both Colin and Lesley. Our room was lovely. Everything we could have needed and more with great touches! Even homemade cookies, Mmmm thank you Lesley. Breakfast choice was varied and we enjoyed deciding the evening before so not an issue there. Our choices were cooked beautifully and was just perfect to set us up for the day! The attention to detail is just amazing, it puts some supposed higher star rated hotels to shame! So thank you both for our short stay BUT we will see you again!

Enjoyed The Black Cat goid value Thai, if out and about The Freshwater coffee house great too. Had few issues re House of Spice and Village Inn this time but have enjoyed before, so this was a shame. Had drink in Crab, friendly and welcoming. Busy Bees nr Ryde a good option to pass few hrs on a rainy day.
