What an amazing weekend we have had at Hawthorne Hideaway. An absolutely beautiful, magical place. It was like being in a fairy tale. The Lodge itself was immaculate with everything you needed and the thought and care that had gone into every detail was evident. The breakfast hamper was delicious, the hot tub and sauna were really relaxing but the highlight of the weekend was snuggling under a blanket on the daybed and watching the outdoor cinema under the stars! We will definitely be back!!!

Thanks so much Gillian, that's an amazing review. We are so appreciative. Thank you. I know we say it so many times but we really do try to do our best at Hawthorn Hideaway, it really does matter to us. so much. We really want our guests to take away special memories. We know our guests are paying a lot of money, but we also want to give excellent value for money and just something on offer you just can't get anywhere else. We want the feeling that once our gates close you could be anywhere. Most people haven't heard of Bassetlaw, or if they have they have no idea what or where it is. I'm not insulting peoples geography skills, It's more that more should be made of it than there is. It's such a beautiful special area. People come from all over the country to stay at Hawthorn Hideaway and to check out the amazing pubs, walks, restaurants and eateries and pretty little market towns in the area. Some just come and don't need to leave Hawthorn Hideaway, they are happy lounging in the hot tub, taking a cosy indoor BBQ cabin, sauna or steam room. All included in the price. Much much more to do both on and off site. Thank you for the plug for the outdoor cinema, with throws, blankets and hot water bottles, so fantastic for year round use and again all included in the price. Thank you Gillian and would love to see you both again one day. Josephine, Ronnie and Melody

Ronnie and Jo are amazing and what they offer is so hard to beat. Hawthorne hideaway is the perfect couples retreat. It’s our 3rd visit here and as always perfect. Perfect to relax and unwind in a very tranquil setting. The log burner and hot tub are fantastic for us and in the perfect setting which is what makes us want to return. The welcome breakfast pack is wonderful, all local produce and very filling. We will definitely be back again. Thanks to Ronnie, Jo and your team

We always bring extra towels and crocs to go to and from the hot tub, plus a couple of sets of swim wear as it’s difficult to dry your wet swimwear in this time of year and it’s very tricky trying to put a wet swimsuit back on lol but other than that, just arrive and relax

Thank you so much for your beautiful words—and for choosing to return to Hawthorn Hideaway for a third time! It means the world to us that you continue to find the peace, comfort, and connection you’re looking for here. We’re so glad the log burner and hot tub are still working their magic, and that the breakfast hamper hit the spot (we love supporting our local producers, and it’s lovely to hear it’s appreciated). Your thoughtful tips for future guests are spot on—extra swimwear and crocs are definitely a smart move, especially in the cooler months! It’s always a joy to welcome you back, and we’re already looking forward to your next visit. Thank you again for your kind words and continued support—it truly makes everything we do feel worthwhile. Warmest wishes, Jo, Ronnie & the Hawthorn Hideaway team 🌿💛

Beautiful. All the small, and big, touches made it perfect from the swan tap to the huge comfy bed. The breakfast hamper was delicious and had the right amount of everything. We loved Bear and the other chickens. Very friendly and caring hosts. A wonderful romantic place and the most relaxing stay. Thank you so much

The nearby town of Gainsborough has a lot of shops that close around 2 on a Wednesday but there are plenty of supermarkets to choose from.

Aww we are so glad you enjoyed your stay so much. Thank you for your all 5* review. We love those, it's impossible to be perfect for every stay, to be all things to all people. But we are giving it a good go. We do make mistakes (rarely I hope) but when we do, we hold our hands up and are upfront about it. If something isn't working, we'll phone and let you know there is an issue. Aww Bear is becoming part of Hawthorn Hideaway's folklore, she's so special. She struts around with her 2 babies, Who are bigger than any of the other chickens. Bear was so broody, she was desperate for babies. Just not enough to actually sit on her eggs for long enough. She have a break in the day, that was just a bit too long. So I cheated and swapped her eggs out last minute for some chicks that were hatching from an incubator. Bear and her babies usually hang around the coop, standing guard, looking out for pesky egg thieves (me mainly). She properly attacks, She'd go for my throat if she wasn't too big to get off the ground. She doesn't hurt though. I just pick her up and give her a big bear hug cuddle, which she likes. I think. It's love hate with Bear and I, if I'm not bringing food, I'm stealing babies. Gainsborough is a good mention, there are plenty of quaint little market town near us: Retford, Gainsborough, Bawtry - all have their own distinct charms and are within 15 minutes or so of Hawthorn Hideaway. Check out Heads Yard in Retford and Womack's in Bawtry needs a good amount of time to get around. You won't want to leave. If you like antiques, you definitely need to head to Hemswell antiques centre, it's a day trip and has interesting things to suit all budgets, and is around a 20 minute drive. Thank you for taking time out to review your stay. You don't have to, we offer nothing to our guests for writing reviews - so it's amazing that people just take out so much time after their stay to write and let other potential guests about how their stay went. We are so lucky to have such amazing guests - that do choose to share. Thank you so much.
