My wife and I (and our dog) had the most magical stay at Sound of Durnamuck. The accommodation is really cute and cosy - and the steam shower was a revelation! But the real magic is the views out of the window and when you step outside. The views over the loch and mountains are so special, but the grounds are also beautifully laid out. We did the barefoot path walk every morning and it was a magical way to start the day. Linda and Mike were wonderful hosts, gave great advice and made us feel so welcome.

Travelling north to Ullapool (go and visit the Seafood Shack!) and heading north to the magical beaches like Achmelvich is exceptional. We also loved heading south to Gairloch and Badachro and the gardens at Inverwewe.

It was an absolutely wonderful experience to stay at the Sound of Durnamuck for four nights. Linda and Mike were warm, welcoming and helpful and we enjoyed several conversations which helped us get to know them. Their place was spotlessly clean, beautifully appointed and very, very quiet. Having Linda arrive every morning with basket of freshly baked bread, rolls, cheese, fruit and a meat or eggs, as well as freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee was a magnificent way to start the day (and well worth the small extra fee!). And we enjoyed our breakfast while looking across Little Loch Broom at the gorgeous mountains. My wife and I would recommend Sound of Durnamuck to anyone looking for a peaceful, quiet, beautiful experience in the Highlands.

There are hikes not far from Sound of Durnamuck. An Tellach is just down the road and was a gorgeous hike with great views across the mountains and water. To the west, there are more hikes to beaches and headlands, as well as small pubs and eateries. Corrieshalloch Gorge National Nature Reserve is near the junction of A835 and A832 and should not be missed. Ullapool is a short 40 minute drive away and features several good restaurants (make sure to stop in at the Fish Shack!) and some nice little shops.

The 'Tiny' House was surprisingly spacious! We were a group of 4 adults and it was very doable, with 2 adults staying in the double bed upstairs, 1 in the lower bunkbed, and 1 on the sofa bed downstairs. Shower was nice and roomy as well. Notes for other travelers: do bring your own cooking knife because there is just 1 small fruit knife in the accomodation. Notes for accomodation: the oven door doesn't open fully if the bathroom door is closed, so it can be awkward if one person is showering and someone else wants to use the oven.
