The cottage was lovely and cosy and in a great location for getting to so many beautiful parts of the Llyn Peninsula. First visit to this part of the UK but I’ll definitely be back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mountain cottage this last week despite the somewhat mixed weather. There was only one day when we stayed put and just enjoyed relaxing at the cottage, eating the Bara Brith from the welcome pack. Thank you! The location is superb with beautiful views across to Cardigan Bay and Harlech and just watching the sunrise or the showers blow across the landscape was a relaxation in itself. Don’t be alarmed by the track if you aren’t a country dweller and used to such things, it is the way to a hidden gem. The cottage was clean, welcoming and warm due to the Rayburn in the kitchen. A little too warm initially, but with very helpful telephone instructions from Mark, the owner, we sorted everything out and can now claim to be expert Rayburn engineers. It provides copious very hot water for baths and showers. The kitchen is very well equipped (lovely sharp knives and an apron, a rental cottage rarity) although there isn’t a microwave, as listed in the details. This wasn’t a problem for us but is worth bearing in mind if you plan to use one. The beds were comfy and so was the sofa. If there are more than five in your party it might be a struggle to all sit on a squishy chair but again, not an issue for us. We did manage a dip in the swimming pond which was ‘refreshing’ in September but most enjoyable. In hot weather it would be a real treat. All in all, we had a fabulous week and loved our stay.

Centrally located on the Llyn it is easy to get to most places from the cottage within half an hour or so. We went Beaumaris on Anglesey for the castle and also to Harlech when our planned trip to Beddgelert was thwarted by a fallen tree. The walk across the dunes and down onto the stunning sandy beach was invigorating in the last gusts of Hurricane Lee. The ice cream from the little Gelateria opposite the castle was delicious! The beach and bay at Whistling Sands are well worth a trip and there is a very nice little cafe with excellent food and service next to the beach. We ate out at Nwdl in Abersoch one evening, which was really excellent. We also enjoyed a delicious lunch in the cafe upstairs in the Portmerion store in Porthmadog. Lots of lovely things to buy too. There are plenty of supermarkets/convenience stores within easy reach.

We walked from the house out on to the hills. Wonderful! We enjoyed Criccieth and Trevor. Swam in the sea in both places . Visited Carnafon.
