The cottage was perfect. Fabulous location; the cottage was warm and comfortable and had everything we needed. The kitchen was well equipped. Two bathrooms and the hallway was perfectly kitted out for storing walking boots and waterproofs, with a small outbuilding perfect if you needed to hang things up to dry and storing bikes. Views were lovely and whilst next to the road, nowhere in Orkney is that busy, so very peaceful location. We would wholeheartedly recommend visiting Orkney and staying at Brodger Cottage. Our host was incredibly helpful and we would definitely look to stay again.

Make sure you do a bit of island hopping on the ferries. We made it to Rousay and Hoy. Took bikes on both occasions and very easy. Can flag the local buses down anywhere to pick you up. The Tearoom at Birsay was a real treat. Great coastal walking, and we also went to a story telling evening of Orkney folktales which was good fun (and only about 2 miles from the cottage: www.orkneyattractions.com)

We absolutely loved this cosy cottage. The location is just awesome, such beautiful views! The cottage was so well equipped and comfortable, we couldn’t have wished for more. The owner was so solicitous, checking in to make sure we had everything we needed and making recommendations for wonderful walks.

Lovely, comfortable cottage in a brilliant position nestled between 2 lochs. There is a great picture window in the sitting room so you can sit having your breakfast watching the birds on Loch Harray. Or watch the sun go down behind the Ring of Brodgar while having your supper. The cottage is well maintained and has an extensive range of kitchen equipment for those who like cooking.

It's Orkney so plenty of archaeology. It's a short walk from the cottage to the Stones of Stenness and Barnhouses, or, in the opposite direction, to the Ring of Brodgar then back by the RSPB reserve by Loch of Stenness, which is perfect in the evening. You can also walk to Maeshowe from Brodgar Cottage. A bit further afield Yesnaby, South of Skara Brae, has magnificent coastal walks. Lots of birdlife everywhere. use the hide on the shore of Loch Harray just beside Barnhouses. Harray is also good for trout fishing. You can usually see puffins, in late spring and summer, on the cliffs at Birsay at the top of the island and get quite close to them. Plenty of really good eating places. Try the Merkister Hotel just on the other side of L Harray, in Dounby. Cycling has become popular in the last few years. Great way to explore the island You can hire bikes from Orkney Cycles in Kirkwall.
