Great small friendly hostel in lovely location near the loch. Very handy for climbing ben Lomond! Great kitchen facilities and cosy living room with real wood burner stove. Friendly staff with good local knowledge.

We ate twice at the hotel just up the road and enjoyed that. The hostel has a decent honesty shop if you weren't able to hike in with food (no opportunities here to shop in town) so you won't starve. Excellent cooking facility. Breakfast is included (the first morning we had eggs available which was great, the second morning porridge oats and there was always plenty of bread and jam along with salt, pepper etc). Tea and coffee (instant) on premises along with milk, honey etc. We hiked Ben Lomond which was challenging in places but very rewarding. The "living room" at the bunkhouse is lovely with sofas, pillows and blankets which were lovely after a damp and tiring hike up the mountain. Also a decent dvd selection which is fun when the evenings are long in November.

Alex was really welcoming and friendly, as were the Rangers who have an office next door

There is a well stored honesty shop but if you like wholemeal bread only white is provided. You might want to bring some fruit too
