Lynn couldn't have been more helpful. Even during storm Babet, she called with us and left a box of essentials for use in the event of the power going off. Fortunately this didn't happen but we were very impressed. The cottage had everything we needed, it was cosy and warm, quiet and with wonderful views, just perfect for a week away.

All the historical sites should not be missed. I actually got the Ring of Brodgar all to myself when I visited. Archive restaurant in Laing Street is excellent. St Magnus Cathedral of course is a must see. Ortak jewellery visitors centre is excellent. We were able to watch some silver jewellery being decorated, it was very intricate and fascinating to watch.

Lynn, the co-owner very friendly and helpful. She welcomed us on arrival and explained the cottage facilities and gave some tips about visiting local sites.

If you want that special night out then we would recommend the Foveran Restaurant in Kirkwall. If you plan to visit Maeshowe then book before you travel as we were told there were no vacancies for two weeks!

Lovely and friendly owners. Lynn's communiation beforehand was excellent and the welcome pack of goodies was very much appreciated. The cottage was spotlessly clean and everything we needed was provided.Lynn had thought of everything, and overall it would probably rank as one of the best we'd stayed in. The view from the cottage from every window was really good too, with a lovely seating area to sit out on...the only downside being that you couldnt see the view to the sea from it. It was great being in Finstown as it was really convenient to get to everywhere on the mainland.

Best walks for fabulous coastal scenery and bird watching: Brough of Birsay, Mull Head at Deerness (saw some seals on the rocks) and Yesnaby (walk o the sea stack) Skara Brae is a must (good cafe, really good visitor centre as well as the Stones of Sterness and the Ring of Brodgar. We didn't have a meal out but enjoyed coffee and cake at the Kirk Cafe and Gallery (Sheila Fleet jewellery). Short walk to Hoxa Head on South Ronaldsay to see the gun batteries on Scapa Flow is well worth it as well as the Italian Chapel (although a very short visit fro £3.50 which we thought was slightly expensive).
