The cottage was wonderful, full of character, nicely furnished and very clean. It was well equipped with everything we needed. We really appreciated the care taken to make it nice. It was a stunning location in the valley surrounded by mountains, and yet not far from shops and restaurants. It wasn’t quite secluded as it’s right next to the path to Ben Nevis and the Ben Nevis Inn, but we didn’t actually find this to be a problem. It was very quiet and just a beautiful spot.

The Ben Nevis Inn next door is absolutely lovely. It does good hearty food and the live music on Tuesdays is definitely worth going to. We enjoyed the museum in Fort William very much. We did several short (but quite strenuous) walks nearby recommended by Forestry and Land Scotland, which were wonderful, especially the ones to waterfalls and with great views. And a great discovery was getting the car ferry across the loch near Fort William and the stunning drive the other side. We loved Crannog restaurant in Fort William, next to the museum, which does excellent seafood.

Triagh golf course is a spectacular little 9 hole course with stunning views. A little nearer is Speanbridge 9 hole course. Take a Scotrail train to Mallaig and see the glenfinnan viaduct for a quarter of the price of the often cancelled steam train! Great fish and chips and a bakery there too! The grog and gruel in Fort William served reasonable food at a good price.
