The hostel has a homely feel. Everyone - staff and guests are always friendly and helpful. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms and kitchen always spotlessly clean. The meals are excellent.

Tips for other travellers

The hostel is in a fabulous location on the edge of the village of Elterwater with many great walks available from the doorstep. The views are amazing. The Britannia pub is a short walk away providing a welcoming retreat in the evenings. The hostel provides breakfast, packed lunch and evening meal on request. All are of good quality and reasonably priced. There’s a fully fitted out kitchen if you prefer to self cater.

Lovely hostel, great dry room (it was needed!), very friendly staff and great food too. Would easily recommend staying here.

Best hostel I’ve ever stayed at. Such an incredible experience! Felt like a home. Elterwater will always have a special place in my heart because of the Elterwater Hostel

Very friendly staff who made us feel really welcome after a day's hiking. An extensive self-catering kitchen although we enjoyed ordering from the menu which was very tasty.

We would definitely recommend this little independent hostel if walking the Cumbria Way in 6 days.
