Thank you for making our stay at Cavens such an enjoyable experience. We were disappointed to leave and had we not already made forward plans we would have stayed longer. Not only are you a superb host, Angus, we so enjoyed the delicious meals that you served. Fresh ingredients, beautifully prepared, and in perfect quantities! The friendliness and helpfulness of your staff are also worthy of note. You have so tastefully furnished Cavens and made it so comfortable that it really is like staying in someone’s home rather than a hotel. Now that we have found Cavens, it would serve to be an enjoyable stop-off location on our next trip north of the border. Thank you once again.

We found Cavens through the Sawdays search engine, and what a find! Set in a beautiful and unspoilt area of Scotland, our time at Cavens felt more like being invited to stay at someone’s home than as hotel residents. The ambience at Cavens is relaxed and welcoming, with nothing too much trouble for the proprietor, Angus Fordyce, and his capable and friendly staff. The bedrooms and communal areas are all tastefully furnished, and the bed in our room was so comfortable it demanded closer inspection to establish the manufacturer! Angus is a talented chef, and do not be put off by the limitation of a set dinner menu as the quality of cuisine is first rate. Although some visitors to Cavens may judge the building and grounds to show signs of age, this is part of its charm, and, unlike so many of today’s hotels, there is nothing pretentious about Cavens. If only we lived closer, Cavens would be a regular haunt.
