"Very nice historic inn in a beautiful location, nestled in a valley in the Peak District.
The staff were friendly and helpful, but rooms are not serviced, and if you want fresh towels you have to let them know, because they are not changed automatically.
The food we had was good, apparently home-cooked, although there are different menus from winter and summer. We looked at the menu on-line and made our choices, only to be shown a different menu, on which our choices were absent.
The bar was busy all the time we were there, serving resident guests as well as trippers and those staying on the several campsites which surround the inn (these are not intrusive). The restaurant was also doing good trade from the campers at breakfast time and in the evenings. The beer was well-kept, which is always a good sign.
The nature of the Peak District means that it attracts drivers and motorcyclists, and we did notice quite a few noisy bikes passing, although these weren't a problem at night."

"My two days with you were at an incredibly busy time, what with the bank holiday, school half term and a heat wave. As an elderly person I did need to request your assistance now and then but all your staff were patient and helpful. The quality (and quantity!) of your food was also superb, too. I can only manage short breaks these days but will definitely return!"

Tip:
"Good facilities in Hartington, a few minutes away - and the Tea Junction, just up the road, is great for a quick cuppa (and free parking!) It's a lovely drive down through Ecton and along the wonderful, shady Manifold Valley....but the road is very narrow and tortuous, so 20 m.p.h. is the maximum!"
